Let's figure out what's not working - and fix it.
CompellingServices works with a small number of local business owners to solve the problems that get in the way of building a better business.
Maybe you need more customers. Maybe people can't find you online. Maybe your website isn't doing its job. Maybe you're spending too much time doing things technology could handle for you.
Or maybe you just know something isn't working and you're not sure where to start.
That's okay. Let's start there.
Based in Leland, NC - helping businesses throughout Brunswick County, Wilmington and the surrounding area.

“I need more customers.”
Let's look at how people currently find you, where opportunities may be getting lost, and what we can realistically improve.
“People can't find me on Google.”
We'll look at your Google Business Profile, website, local search presence, reviews and competitors to figure out what's holding you back.
“My website isn't doing anything for me.”
Maybe it needs replacing. Maybe it doesn't. Let's figure that out before you spend money rebuilding it.
“I'm spending too much time doing repetitive stuff.”
Let's look at what you're doing over and over and see whether better systems, automation or AI can take some of it off your plate.
“I'm getting leads, but I'm losing too many of them.”
We can look at response time, follow-up, forms, missed calls, estimates and what happens after someone contacts you.
“I don't really know what I need.”
That's completely fine. Tell me what's bothering you. That's where we start.
Sound familiar? Tell me what's going on and we'll start there.
How I can help
There isn't one marketing package that makes sense for every business. The right answer depends on what's actually causing the problem.
Build a new website or improve the one you already have.
A website should make it easy to understand what you do, trust your business, and take the next step. If your existing website can be fixed, I'm not going to tell you that you need a new one just so I can sell you one.
Help customers find you when they're actually searching for what you do.
This can include fixing incomplete or incorrect information, improving categories and services, strengthening photos and content, review strategy, and identifying opportunities competitors may be taking advantage of.
Help search engines, and increasingly AI-powered search tools, understand your business better.
Where you work, what you actually do, and who you do it for should be obvious. No mystery, no jargon, no 40-page keyword report.
Find practical ways to save time and eliminate repetitive work.
Used in the right places, it can quietly take work off your plate:
Practical ways to put your business in front of more of the right local customers.
That can be online, offline, or both. Not every business needs paid advertising, and I'll tell you if I don't think it's where your money should go.
Make it easier for happy customers to tell other people about it.
You've probably already earned a good reputation. The goal is making sure the next customer actually sees it.
Sometimes the best way to reach a local customer isn't another Facebook ad.
CompellingServices runs local community advertising and direct-mail programs, including Community Cards, that put your business in front of nearby households.
See local advertising optionsNot every business problem fits neatly into a marketing box.
Sometimes you need someone outside the business to look at what's happening, ask questions, challenge assumptions and help figure out what makes sense next.
AI should save you time or make you money. Otherwise, what's the point?
There are incredible tools available to small businesses right now. But that doesn't mean you need AI everywhere. If it can save time, improve follow-up, eliminate repetitive work or help you make better decisions, let's use it. If a simpler solution works better, we'll use the simpler solution.

I'm a small business owner too.
20+ years working with websites, search, SEO & online marketing
I've spent more than 20 years working with websites, search, SEO and online marketing. But I'm also a small business owner.
I think that matters.
I'm dealing with many of the same questions you are - where to spend money, what technology is actually worth using, how to find customers, what to do myself, what to hand off, and how to find enough hours in the day.
I may have more experience with websites, search, marketing and technology, but I'm still sitting on the same side of the table.
Technology has changed. The basic business questions haven't.
That's the part I enjoy - figuring things out.
Sometimes the answer is a better website. Sometimes it's Google. Sometimes it's marketing, follow-up, AI, automation or a better process.
And sometimes the best advice is not to spend the money at all.
I work with a small number of local businesses because I want to actually know the people I'm helping - what you're trying to build, what's frustrating you, and what success looks like for you.
I'm not trying to build the biggest marketing company in Wilmington.
I'd rather work with a handful of good local businesses, help them succeed, celebrate the wins with them, and hopefully make running the business a little less stressful along the way.
More revenue matters.
But so does getting home for dinner.
So does time with your family, and a vacation you don't spend on your phone.
So does supporting your community, creating another job, and not lying awake at two in the morning worrying about the business.
The goal isn't just to build a bigger business. It's to build one that works better for you.
Free Local Business Checkup
I'll take a practical look at the parts of your business customers see online and identify obvious opportunities, problems or things that may be costing you business.
Depending on the business, that might include:
You're not getting a 40-page report designed to make everything sound complicated.
The goal is to answer four questions:
If some of it is easy enough for you to fix yourself, I'll tell you. If there's something I can help with, we can talk about that too.
I'm not interested in selling every business the same package.
We'll figure out what makes sense, what it costs and whether it's worth doing before you commit to anything.
Who I work with
HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, fencing, cleaning, landscaping, pressure washing, restaurants, retail, automotive, real estate, professional services and local organizations. If your customers live nearby, there's a good chance I can help - and when local businesses do well, the whole community does a little better.
