Marketing & lead generation

Marketing Should Help Your Business, Not Just Give You More Things To Manage

Marketing isn't one thing. It's a set of tools, and only some of them make sense for your business right now.

  • Google Business Profile
  • Your website
  • Local SEO
  • Reviews
  • Direct mail
  • Community advertising
  • Social media where it fits
  • Email
  • Offers
  • Follow-up
  • Referral systems
  • QR code tracking
  • Local partnerships

More leads isn't always the answer

Sometimes a business genuinely needs more leads. Just as often, it needs to do a better job with the ones it already gets.

Before spending money to generate more inquiries, it's worth looking at what happens to the ones you have.

  • How fast someone hears back from you
  • Whether anyone follows up a second time
  • Missed calls and voicemails nobody returns
  • Whether your website makes the next step obvious
  • What the customer experience feels like from the outside

Online and offline both still work

A lot of marketing help these days only knows the digital half. Around here, plenty of customers still notice what shows up in their mailbox, what a neighbor recommends, and which businesses they see around the community.

Direct mail, community advertising, referral relationships, local partnerships and print aren't obsolete. They just need to point somewhere that's ready for the call.

Measure what makes sense

Nobody can perfectly attribute every customer, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling a dashboard. But you should have a reasonable idea of what's working.

  • Form inquiries
  • Phone calls
  • QR code scans
  • Website traffic
  • Search visibility for what you actually do
  • Where leads say they came from
  • Sales, where you can tie them back

If I don't think you should spend it, I'll say so

Not every business needs paid advertising. Sometimes the better use of the same money is fixing the website, getting the Google listing right, or building a review habit.
